Paardevlei Hospital will host the third Cardiac Unit that he has been involved in since starting up, the first being at St. Anne's Hospital in Pietermaritzburg, where he practiced for four years, initially, as the sole Cardiologist, and which now has four Cardiologists, with an active Cardio-Thoracic Unit. The second was at Ethekwini Hospital and Heart Centre in Durban, where he was part of a team of four Cardiologists and one Cardio-Thoracic Surgeon who started the Cardiac Unit, and were the first resident doctors. That Cardiology Unit now performs over 200 cardiac catheterisations and other cardiology procedures per month, and there have been up to eight Cardiologists working at one time. The Cardio-Thoracic Unit is also a busy unit.

The vision for cardiology at Busamed Paardevlei Private Hospital is to grow the Cardiovascular Unit into a centre of excellence, with increased capacity, and covering the full range of cardiovascular needs of the local community, complementing the work being done at Vergelegen Mediclinic. Dr Letcher's interests are in the full range of Interventional Cardiology therapies, which he is developing at Paardevlei Private Hospital.
